Storyboard

We present a paper sharing tool, which functionality is restricted only to share papers. The power of the tool hides in his search engine: based on the users profile, search history and customizable options, the user can efficiently browse through all provided papers. The video below presents the storyboard, explaining the functionality. (We apologize for the poor audio quality)

  1. The mechanic voice annoys me and distracts my attention from the main point of this video :s

In what way is this system better than google scholar apart from "what did others read"?

  2. The search concept was clear, but is there also a way to navigate back to previous searches or do you have to excute the same search again?

  3. Why the mechanical voice?

Is the paper bibliography, the list of best rated papers and the list of similar papers linked to the cited papers? Why do you not add citing papers?

How do I go back from the results to the search, for instance when I want to change the search criteria?

  4. This doesn't seem to be very innovative. What would be the reason a user would use your application instead of an application like Mendeley?

  5. The reason why people are going to use this, is the fact that we use a search engine that has default personal settings.Which means that the advanced search settings are set by our system using information of the user profile and history. This will provide better results without extra user interactions.

  6. I see that you are presenting a list of "Best rated papers on these domains". How exactly are the papers rated? By users, the administrators of the application, 'moderators'?
Also, what do you mean with the users 'history' when determening his search preferences? I'll assume you mean the search history, in that case: how would you seperate the hits and misses? After all, a user might search for something only to discover then that it wasn't exactly what he was looking for...

  7. Every user can rate every paper (like in YouTube), so when one reads a paper, they can rate it.
Second: of course misses do happen sometimes, but our search engine optimizes the results so misses are minimized and every paper that is read can be logged in the user's history
